ISO 3166-1 Country Codes Released

Revised Standard Streamlines Country Identification

International Organization for Standardization Publishes Updated Codes

[City, Date] - The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has released the latest update to ISO 3166-1, the standard defining codes for the names of countries and their subdivisions. The new standard includes revisions to the three sets of ISO 3166-1 country codes for each of the 249 countries, as well as links to the ISO 3166-2 country subdivision codes.

ISO 3166-1 is widely used in various applications, including international trade, banking, and postal services. The two-letter ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 codes are particularly useful for brevity and ease of use. For example, the ISO 3166-1-Alpha-2 code for Belgium is BE.

This update to ISO 3166-1 ensures that the codes remain current and accurate. It also provides consistency across different applications, facilitating seamless communication and data exchange.
